GAZE. Unruly Pleasure is a solo choreographic performance exploring the relationships between the body, pleasure, the gaze, and the image.

The work begins with the premise that seeing is not a neutral act of perception, but a corporeal practice that organizes affect and desire, regulates visibility, and produces meaning. The performer explores the gaze as something that caresses, touches, anoints, penetrates, and becomes a sensual navigator across the terrain of the body-image.

The performance unfolds as a choreography of looking, in which the performer’s body-as-eye functions simultaneously as a material presence and as an image produced through its encounter with the viewer. The body appears as an object of the gaze, but also as an active subject that reorganizes the conditions of perception and determines what can be seen.

GAZE. Unruly Pleasure examines the tension between the sensual pleasure of looking and its potential for control. Pleasure emerges here as an unruly force–one that eludes normative structures and destabilizes established regimes of vision.

Who is looking, for whose pleasure, and to whom does the gaze belong? How can the body reclaim agency in relation to mechanisms of visibility that seek to construct and define it?

The performer also invites eroticism into this field of inquiry, treating it as a force with both spiritual and political dimensions. Pleasure becomes a practice of imagination, relationality, and emancipation.

The performer explores moments in which the gaze begins to act upon the body–transforming, fragmenting, stylizing, sexualizing, or appropriating it through meaning. At the same time, the performer’s body slips beyond imposed boundaries, actively redefining the relationship between the one who looks and the one who is looked at.

Within her body, the performer hosts urban outlaws, seductresses, and emancipated women whose voices and gazes break through the boundaries of what is forbidden.
