“The Room” is an improvisational sound piece made up of contrasts. It creates a sonic landscape of soft and harsh textures exploring what it means to be a mother in today’s capitalistic, consumer driven context where expectations of doing it all and doing it well create intense anxiety alongside the transcendental experience of motherhood. Using a visceral dream about a performative, time-bending room as a jumping off point, “The Room” is built around lyrical texts that layer and overlap, stuttering and exploding to weave a tapestry of co-existing antipoles emblematic of the complexities of motherhood and its simultaneous ability to obliterate and define.
