Urška Brodar is a dramaturge and translator. She was employed at the Slovensko mladinsko gledališče from 2017 to 2026. Until 2024, she focused on curating the New Post office Programme and developing new performative formats, such as the Performance Festival, while also exploring alternative modes of working in theatre. The New Post Office was a place of dialogue, meetings, and confrontations, a place for thinking wider social events and responses to them, and thus an example of good practices of collaboration between an NGO and an institution. Prior to that, she collaborated with NGOs (Glej Theatre, Bunker, Maska) as well as institutional theatres (Celje City Theatre, Slovene National Theatre Nova Gorica). Her particular interest has been devised theatre; she often collaborated with Jure Novak, Katarina Stegnar and Eva Nina Lampič, and as dramaturge with the Beton Ltd. Collective (the German Cycle – Ich kann nicht anders and Große Erwartungen). Her main interest lies in merging non-institutional creation principles within institutional working conditions, and in the transformation of cultural institutions. She has recently joined the team of the Mecklenburg State Theatre Schwerin.
As a translator, she is most interested in contemporary German drama. She translated texts by Ibrahim Amir, Sibylle Berg, Thomas Bernhard, Bertolt Brecht, Tankred Dorst, Friedrich Dürrenmatt, Rainer Werner Fassbinder, Annike Henrich, Katja Hensel, Enis Maci, Wolfram Lotz and Roland Schimmelpfennig to Slovenian, and 7 Cooks, 4 Soldiers, 3 Sophias by Simona Semenič to German.
