Anna Zaradny is a sound and visual artist, composer, instrumentalist, and co-founder of the Musica Genera festival and record label. She graduated from the Academy of Music, where she studied saxophone and conducting. Her practice combines improvised and experimental music with visual art, treating instruments and other tools as open, organic forms. Her work encompasses both acoustic improvisation rooted in a minimalist idiom and structurally complex electronic compositions.
She creates scores, performances, objects, compositions and sound installations, as well as photography and video. She explores the relationships between sound, space, architecture, and light, using sound as a tool for narrative and immersive, embodied experience. Her work has been presented at, among others, the Museum of Modern Art in Warsaw, Zachęta — National Gallery of Art, Bunkier Sztuki, Kunst-Werke, Foksal Gallery, the Institute of Avant-Garde / Foksal Gallery Foundation, and at the 5th Biennale de Lubumbashi. She has performed at festivals including Sonic Protest Paris, Unsound, ACHT BRÜCKEN in Cologne, What is Music? in Australia, and at The Knitting Factory in New York. Her discography includes projects with artists such as Burkhard Stangl, Christian Fennesz, Robert Piotrowicz, Jerome Noetinger, Tony Buck, and Kasper T. Toeplitz. She is also a composer of theatre and multimedia music and has collaborated with, among others, the National Theatre, Nowy Teatr, Studio Theatre, and Dramatic Theatre in Warsaw, as well as the National Old Theatre in Kraków and the Contemporary Theatre in Szczecin.
She is the recipient of the Audience Award at the Spojrzenia 2011 competition, and has received scholarships from the Minister of Culture and National Heritage and MuseumsQuartier Wien. She was also a SHAPE 2017 artist. Her residencies include La Muse en Circuit, EMS Stockholm, and KSYME — CRM Athens. In 2026, she is an artist in the exhibition Rites of Passage at the Polish Pavilion at the 16th edition of the Gwangju Biennale. During the 69th Warsaw Autumn Festival, the premiere of her composition Stolen Time. Kujawiak & Oberek, performed by NeoQuartet, will take place.
